Overview

Port decarbonisation programme optimising shore-power allocation and auditable MWh energy accounting to cut at-berth, port-call vessel emissions.

Directed a two-analyst team for Port of Barcelona to reduce at-berth port-call emissions through optimized shore power (onshore power supply) allocation and energy reconciliation. Designed vessel arrival-process handling to integrate shore-power connection into port-call planning. Built allocation logic to optimize vessel-to-connection assignment, maximizing emissions reduction within finite capacity constraints. Managed MWh accounting of real consumption, reconciling measured shore-power use against utility provider records for accurate, auditable energy accounting. Delivered Phase 1 proof-of-concept (late 2024 – end 2025) demonstrating precise resource allocation, reducing port-call emissions through more efficient use of shore-power capacity. The successful validation established repeatable basis for cutting at-berth emissions and scaling to larger subsequent phases.
